Contact lenses are chosen (in addition to glasses) for several reasons. Often people find glasses uncomfortable or prefer the way they look in contacts. Active and athletic people also like the freedom and convenience provided by contact lenses.

Are there different kinds of contact lenses?

HARD CONTACTS are made of a slightly flexible rigid material. Hard contacts take a bit of time to adjust to, but may offer a crisper clearer vision for some patients than soft contacts.

SOFT CONTACTS are made of a soft flexible material. Soft contact lenses are very comfortable and are usually easier to adjust to, however, they may not be right for everyone.

TORIC CONTACTS are soft contacts that correct for astigmatism.

MULTIFOCAL CONTACTS
are contacts that allow you to see clearly both near and far. These are ideal for people with presbyopia, who don't like glasses and who don't want to carry around reading glasses.

There are so many brands. How will I choose?

After your complete eye examination and contact lens fitting, your Doctor will decide with you what type of lens is best for you and whether you need a disposable or a more long term use lens. Together we will choose the brand and type of contact lenses that best fits your eyes and your lifestyle.



Can I change my eye color with contact lenses?

Most patients are able to enhance or change their eye color with contact lenses. Sometimes people who do not need correction for their visi

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do I still need glasses after getting contacts?
YES!!! You need them whenever you remove your contacts to clean them or rest your eyes and in case of an eye problem that leaves you unable to wear contacts for a period of time.

Can I sleep in contact lenses?
This is an often debated topic, but the Eye MD's at Mid-Atlantic Eye Physicians agree that you should NEVER sleep in contact lenses as this can lead to serious eye problems.

How do I care for my contacts? Contacts should be removed and cleaned daily unless we instruct you otherwise. Our staff will instruct you in insertion and removal of contacts and you must demonstrate the ability to do this yourself before contact lenses can be dispensed.

Does my health insurance cover contacts? Only in rare circumstances of corneal abnormalities and certain medical conditions will your insurance cover this expense. However, many routine vision plans do help with the cost.
